Oral & IV Sedation

Anxiety and fear has historically been a major deterrent for some patients which may seek periodontal treatment but are afraid of experiencing pain and discomfort during the procedure. We strive to make the appointments as comfortable as possible by offering our patients different alternatives in order to minimize the anxiety and have a more relaxed experience.

Please consult with Drs. Mackler, Lutins, and Benitez to help you decide which type of anxiety reducer (sedation) is right for you.

Sedations:

a) Oral Sedation:

If you elect to use one of the following oral sedatives you must have a ride to and from the office. Please bring your remaining tablets with you. You may or may not eat before the procedure, but the sedatives will be more effective if you do not.

Ativan (Lorazepam)
Valium (Diazepam)
Triazolam (Halcion)

b) IV Sedation:

Different from oral sedation, this technique uses several sedatives and narcotics intravenously inducing a "sleeping stage". If you should have questions of the benefits and risks involved using this approach, please do not hesitate to consult with us to see if you are a candidate for IV sedation.
